✈️ American Airlines will continue to allow travelers to earn AAdvantage Miles regardless of where they book their tickets, including third-party sites, reversing plans that would have restricted loyalty points based on booking channels. This is really good news, y'all. Read more here.

Good morning from Surakarta, the hidden gem of Indonesia! We’ve got an interesting tip to share today that I think many of you will find REALLY helpful…

Here’s what’s on the docket:

📞 I used the reconsideration line, and it worked!

For this section, I’m going hand this over to McKay, a member of the Daily Drop team who recently had a major success using one of the best tools in the points and miles world.

So, without further ado, you can take it from here, McKay!

Thanks, Mike!

Okay… So, we need to address a dark, dark reality for most people who have ever applied for a credit card…

…being denied. 🙃

Why does it feel so personal?

Thankfully, these credit card companies aren’t leaving us high and dry (even though we might act like it sometimes).

Enter the most glorious, the most perfecto, the absolute sexiest telephone number — the reconsideration line.

A pink telephone graphic on a light pink background

And if you’ve never heard of it, I’m about to make your week.

Story time.

I started my credit card journey long, long ago, in 2022 (sarcasm).

I had zero credit history, zero open accounts, and a heart full of dreams.

I was denied… obviously.

But instead of entering a period of self-pity and mourning, I swallowed my pride, called the reconsideration line, and proceded to have one of the most pleasant phone calls to date.

The same thing happened again in 2024 when I applied for this card (aka the greatest travel card in the seven kingdoms).

Same thing. DENIED

Whomp whomp. Poor me. The whole nine yards. You get it. 😭

Enter (yet again)… the reconsideration line, and (yet again) I WAS ACCEPTED.

Gif about the reconsideration line

The bottom line is — always call.

When you do, make sure to state your case:

  1. "I have a perfect payment history and good credit."

  2. "I always pay my balance in full."

  3. "I keep my credit card balances low."

  4. "I have had a credit history for ____ years.”

And usually, you’ll want to call within 30 days of being denied.

The worst they can say is “no.”

But more often than not, I’ve encountered people who want to help.

Seriously — if the rest of the customer service industry was as interested in helping folks as credit card customer service, the world would be a much better place.

So here’s the bottom line:

Don’t miss out on the best cards on the market just because of an initial denial—it doesn’t have to be the end of the story!

Pick your head up and call the reconsideration line (you can find the exact number for each bank with a quick Google search) — you got this! 💪

Okay, back to you, Mike. 🤘🏼

✈️ Flying Blue has released its June Promo Rewards

Another month, another round of Flying Blue Promo Rewards!

I personally love Air France and KLM’s joint loyalty program, Flying Blue, because they consistently offer solid trans-Atlantic award redemptions.

Plus, their miles are quite easy to come by since you can transfer points over to Flying Blue from every major bank 🙌

And if you’re new around here, every month, Flying Blue releases a list of eligible flights to/from different destinations at varying discounts (typically 25% to 50%).

For this month, you must book your flight by June 30, 2024 for travel through November 30, 2024… which is a pretty sweet window.

Here’s an overview map of what’s on offer this month 👇

More specifically, we’re seeing 25% off economy flights between cities like Seattle, Phoenix, Washington D. C., Boston, Houston, and New York (JFK) over to Europe… Starting at just 15,000 miles one-way 🤯

There are also a few other interesting routes down to the Caribbean, Central America, and even over to Shanghai.

And one of the best features of these promos is that they are multi-directional—meaning that if you see an eligible route between Seattle and Paris, you should be able to book a discounted award ticket going in either direction.

Overall, it’s always a good day when Flying Blue releases its latest Promo Rewards, and this one is no different, especially if you’re looking at a trip over to Europe this summer and fall.

🤓 Travel Trivia Tuesday

Can you guess the world's most populated island?

Only Email Recipients can participate in polls.

Sumatra, Indonesia

*Drumroll please*

The correct answer happens to be the place I’m currently writing this email from… Java, Indonesia!

Java tops the list as the world’s most populous island, and is home to over 156 million people. 🤯

Despite not being the largest island in Indonesia by area, it hosts more than half of the country's population. The island's fertile soil and dense rainforests contribute to its high population density of 2,600 people per square mile.

Java is a beautiful combination of Indonesia’s largest cities and plenty of rural countryside, making it a unique and vibrant place to live.

Here are some other rankings:

  1. 🇯🇵 Honshu, Japan

  2. 🇬🇧 Great Britain, United Kingdom

  3. 🇵🇭 Luzon, Philippines

  4. 🇮🇩 Sumatra, Indonesia

I'm curious – have you visited any of these places? If you want to read more about the world's most populous islands, check out this article.

That’s all for today, friends!

The reconsideration line is one of the best tools in the points and miles toolkit…

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been denied for a card because some computer algorithm decided I didn’t deserve it, only to be approved by a human thanks to a given card’s reconsideration phone number.

Have you ever used the reconsideration line?

Only Email Recipients can participate in polls.

Take care, and I’ll see you tomorrow ❤️
