Holy smokes: Book Delta flights for 2,200 points

Good morning from seat 1A on my JetBlue flight to Pittsburgh (look at me, flying around America for once).

We’ve got some urgent and exciting deals to share, then one fun not-so-urgent (but still exciting) domestic weekend getaway idea.

🌎 Delta flash sale on points flights (today only)

Delta is out with a flash sale on flights booked with SkyMiles, and there are some crazy deals.

Before we dive in, you need to know that this sale ends TODAY (I saw it after yesterday’s newsletter was fully written, so sorry for the extreme urgency).

Here are the details:

• Valid on various domestic and international routes

• Must book by today

• Travel can take place through April 30, 2026

• That’s it. Pretty straightforward.

The big highlight of this sale is flights between the U.S. and Europe for as few as 26,000 SkyMiles round trip.

For example, that is the exact price for this flight from New York to Barcelona:

Oh, are you wondering why it says 22,000 miles?

That’s because Delta co-branded cards offer a benefit called TakeOff15, which gives you a 15% discount on award flights operated by Delta itself (not partner airlines).

In this example, 11,000 miles each way to get to Europe is a fantastic deal, and one we rarely see, especially using SkyMiles.

As I mentioned earlier, this sale also applies to domestic flights. If you’re based on the West Coast, this flight from Los Angeles to Seattle costs just 4,400 miles round-trip with the cardholder discount.

That’s 2,200 Delta freaking SkyMiles to fly domestically, which breaks my brain… 🤯

If you think you have to skip this sale because you don’t have any SkyMiles handy, fret not: You can transfer MR points to Delta at a 1:1 ratio. And when prices are this good, you shouldn’t hesitate to make the transfer.

If you don’t have any points, that’s okay too – we see sales like this from Delta throughout the year.

Right now, Delta’s co-branded cards have some elevated offers, which makes now the perfect time to stock up on miles so you’re ready for the next big award sale.

In less exciting (but still good) news, Spirit Airlines is ALSO having a flash sale that ends today, with a whopping 90% discount on base fares.

90% – that’s CRAZY, right?

Well, we’ll get to that. But first, here are the details:

• You must book by today

• Use code 90PCT

• Travel can take place between February 10 and March 11

• Only valid on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays (😑)

• Discount applies to the base fare only, not any taxes or fees

So this is extremely restricted, especially with the limitations around days of the week.

So if you already need to travel on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday in late February or early March, you might as well take advantage of this.

Otherwise, I wouldn’t go too far out of your way to make this work.

The thing about Spirit Airlines is that the “base fare” is often such a small portion of the overall ticket price that it won’t really make a dent in the price anyway.

The most optimal use of this promo is on international flights with higher fares. For example, Spirit has a number of routes to Central and South American cities like Medellin, Colombia.

This flight from Fort Lauderdale to Medellin costs almost $40 less thanks to this promo code, which is not bad savings.

Anyway, this is less exciting than the Delta sale, so I’d focus more on that today.

🌵 Weekend Getaways: Santa Fe

You don’t need to book a crazy trip abroad to benefit from points and miles (although we highly encourage that behavior).

Sometimes, a quick weekend getaway to a new spot in the U.S. can offer plenty of value for points.

And if you’re craving a weekend that feels totally different from your normal life (without requiring a long-haul flight or a spiritual awakening), Santa Fe is honestly perfect.

It’s got that cozy desert energy where the food is spicy, and the scenery makes you forget about the woes of the world.

You can wander around adobe streets, eat absurd amounts of green chile, pop into art galleries you didn’t plan on visiting, and just… relax.

That’s why Santa Fe works so well as a 48–72 hour getaway: you can land, drop your bag, and immediately fall into that soft-desert-weekend mode.

How to get there

Santa Fe feels isolated compared to bigger cities, but it’s easy to get to – especially from big cities in the west.

For example, you can fly nonstop on American Airlines from Los Angeles for just 5,500 AA miles:

You can transfer ThankYou points to AA if you don’t have any miles handy.

If you don’t have AA miles or ThankYou points and want to book that same exact flight, you can do it with just 4,500 Atmos Rewards points.

While Santa Fe airport doesn’t have many nonstop routes, it does connect to some major cities, like Denver.

You can fly this route nonstop on United for less than 10,000 United miles, which you can easily transfer over from UR points.

If you’re on the East Coast, it might be a stretch to head all the way to Santa Fe just for a weekend. So… you might need to take a sick day on Monday to really maximize the trip. 😉

Where to stay

Santa Fe has a surprisingly deep hotel scene for a tiny city, and points go a long way here.

If you want something with spa energy and a little indulgence, Marriott’s La Posada de Santa Fe looks pretty quintessential Santa Fe, and can be booked for 44,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night:

This also makes it a great option for Marriott Free Night Certificates, many of which top out at 35,000-50,000 points.

If you’re more in the “maximize value so I can spend money on green chile and margaritas” mindset, the Holiday Inn Express is your winner.

With the IHG co-branded card and the 4th-night-free perk, you can snag a four-night stay for just over 20,000 points per night, sometimes even less.

Plus, Holiday Inn Express hotels offer free breakfast for all guests, adding a little extra value.

You’ll probably want a car

New Mexico is definitely not a public transit kind of state… thankfully, you can rent a car right when you land at the airport.

If you do rent a car, you could also consider flying in and out of Albuquerque (ABQ), which has tons more flight options.

A few ideas to get you started

If you want some specific ideas for how to spend a few days here, here’s what I recommend:

• Canyon Road: A long stretch of galleries, sculptures, and outdoor art.

• The Plaza: Adobe buildings, cute shops, live music, coffee, and people-watching.

• Meow Wolf: A weird, immersive, psychedelic art labyrinth… don’t look it up in advance… just go.

• Santa Fe Opera: If you want a sunset with an epic soundtrack.

• Green or red chile everything: Stews, enchiladas, burgers, etc.
