You're probably wondering what the heck this first section of the newsletter is all about. I mean, what could "The Snuggle is Real" possibly be referring to?
Well, I need you to lean in real close, because I have a secret to tell you.
The secret is this: you can unlock free stuff at various businesses by using secret passwords. I know it sounds a little crazy, but it's true.
For example, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, there is a pizzeria that will give you a free order of breadsticks if you walk up to the cashier and say "slice, slice baby." I'm not kidding. And the breadsticks are amazing.
But what I'm about to tell you is even better than that.
That's because Kimpton Hotels has released their new secret password, "The Snuggle is Real," which will unlock secret benefits at hotels. To be honest, they're very bad at keeping secrets. I mean, they announced it in a tweet for goodness sake.
|
|
Here's how it works:
Until February 20th, 2023, use this secret password when checking in at any Kimpton hotel, and you'll get a free gift, which varies by hotel.
Kimpton has done this before with other secret passwords and the secret gifts have included anything from free food and beverage credits to free full breakfast and even free parking.
Given that Kimpton hotels are part of the IHG loyalty program, this is a great opportunity for anyone planning to stay at a Kimpton who doesn't have the benefits of elite status. Of course, there's no way to know exactly what you'll get. But if you plan to stay at a Kimpton, don't forget to use the password.
If I were you, I'd make a big deal by keeping it a secret. When you're at the reception desk, look around to make sure the coast is clear, lean in, and secretively whisper the password to the receptionist. Maybe they'll give you a better gift if you entertain them a little. 😉

🏨 Keep up the good work, IHG
|
|
We all know that IHG has been killing it lately with some amazing Black Friday and Cyber Monday hotel promos. And IHG, your hard work hasn't gone unnoticed.
|
|
Here are the details:
- Get a 25% discount when booking stays using Cash & Points (together)
- You must book by December 2
- Stays can take place between January 1 and February 28
This is pretty straightforward, but you might be wondering: what is a points & cash booking, and when does it make sense to use?
Points and cash is exactly what it sounds like - instead of paying for a hotel with just points or just cash, it's a combination of the two, usually roughly split down the middle.
Here is why I'm a big fan of using points and cash in certain situations:
When I travel, I set a budget for myself. So even when I have the option to book a hotel purely on points, I sometimes like to save my points and put some cash toward it as well. After all, I have a budget for hotels, so why not use it?
Points are as good as cash to me, given the amount of traveling I do, so I want to conserve my points as long as possible. If I can put $50 a night toward hotels where I'm also using points, I'll save more points to use on luxury hotels that I otherwise wouldn't be able to stay at.
Even so, there are also situations where you should avoid using points and cash at all costs.
Specifically, booking with both points and cash negates the 5th night free benefit that most hotel chains offer. For example, Hilton will give you every 5th night free when using points. If you book with points and cash, you lose a ton of value because you're no longer getting that free night.
|
|
If you hold the IHG credit card that gives you every fourth night free when using points, be sure to crunch the numbers to see if this 25% discount on cash and points outweighs the value of the free night you're missing out on by losing that benefit.
Overall, this 25% discount from IHG is yet another welcome addition to their growing portfolio of Cyber Week sales.

🌎 The inhabited island that nobody is allowed to travel to
|
|
It's hard to believe that in the year 2022, there are still people living in this world who have never been in contact with modern society.
I'm not sure if you're aware, but there are over 100 tribes around the world who live in complete isolation. Some of them have never been contacted at all, while others have shown aggression when contact attempts have been made.
It's crazy to think that these people will never know the joy of Poptarts, the frustration of flight delays, or the pure and total devastation of [REDACTED] dying on Game of Thrones. Don't worry; I would never spoil things for you.
Anyway, one of these uncontacted tribes is located on North Sentinel Island, in the Indian region of the Andaman Islands.
|
|
Over the years, people have attempted to contact them many, many times. Unfortunately, most visits end in violence of some kind.
Even more unfortunately, the tribe, called the Sentinelese, has killed several people who have gotten too close to the island.
This led the Indian government to declare North Sentinel Island a tribal reserve and prohibit all travel within three nautical miles of the island. Since then, numerous people have attempted to contact the tribe, only to be killed.
The Indian government doesn't pursue legal action against them since they are a completely isolated society and want no part of the outside world.
Since nobody has successfully integrated with their tribe, we know very little about them. Nobody has any clue what life is like on the island, what their language is like, or even how many people actually live there.
This is just one of many tribes like this in the world, and I find it incredibly fascinating. As much as I want to see the entire world, I also find some comfort in knowing some cultures haven't been touched by modern humans and continue to exist the way they have for hundreds of years.
|
|
That's all for today, folks!
Have you ever heard about uncontacted tribes like the Sentinelese? Are you a fan of these "secret password"-style promotions? Let me know by replying to this email or reaching out on social media.
