This card has many meaningful benefits for frequent flyers of American Airlines. Most notably, this card gives you a complimentary Admirals Club® membership. If a ton of miles, great benefits, and unlimited lounge access sound good to you, then this is definitely a card worth picking up!

At Daily Drop, our mission is simple: to help you explore the world affordably and experience life-changing travel by maximizing miles and points. Our team of travel and credit card experts is here to help you make decisions about which cards belong in your wallet. Based on your travel goals, we offer unbiased advice to help you make the best choices. Keep in mind that our suggestions require responsible credit card use.
Here at Daily Drop, we score credit cards using a proprietary formula based on dozens of metrics across six key categories: annual fee, welcome offer, rewards rates, redemption value, benefits & perks, and travel protections. Higher scores indicate better overall value.
We net the annual fee against statement credits you'll likely use and focus on a welcome offer’s true return on spending (ROI) rather than just the headline number. We value rewards by their actual worth in cents per point, which is why flexible, transferable points typically score highest. APR is not a standalone scoring category because we recommend paying in full to maximize points and miles, but an intro 0% APR counts as a perk.
Our reviews are editorial and experience-driven. Our team has earned and redeemed millions of miles and points and tested these cards around the world. After all, we would not be Daily Drop if we were not practicing what we preach.

Here's the deal: you get this card for the Admirals Club® membership. Full stop. 🤷
You also get the ability to earn Loyalty Points toward American elite status through your everyday spending. So if you’re chasing AA status and elite perks without constantly being on a plane, these are the valuable perks.
Because tbh, this isn’t a great everyday spending card. You’ll earn just 1x on pretty much everything outside of American Airlines, and the 5x rate on American purchases doesn’t kick in until you’ve spent a whopping $150,000 in a calendar year. 😵 The card also comes with an array of statement credits, but as always, only count the value you’ll actually use.
It's worth noting that this card has a similar annual fee to the Citi Strata Elite℠ Card — but the Strata Elite earns flexible points you can transfer to American at 1:1, while this card earns American miles, period.
Bottom line: If you're a die-hard AA flyer, will make good use of Admirals Clubs, and want to earn status through spending, this card can make a lot of sense. If you’d rather keep your points flexible, the Strata Elite is probably the better bet.

[.dontreco] We don't recommend: Redeeming miles for hotels, cars, or vacation packages [.dontreco]
American lets you put miles toward hotel stays, car rentals, vacation packages, and seat upgrades. All of it is available and all of it is a poor rate compared to what the same miles do on a flight.
[.sometimesreco] We sometimes recommend: American Airlines' own flights [.sometimesreco]
American prices its own award seats dynamically, so what you pay swings with demand and there's no chart to check against. Sometimes it works out fine. What's worth watching are AAdvantage® web specials, discounted award fares that show up on specific routes and dates and can be genuinely excellent. Check those before you assume a regular award price is your only option.
[.alwaysreco] We always recommend: Partner premium cabins [.alwaysreco]
This is where AAdvantage® earns its reputation. These miles are strongest booking business and first class on oneworld® and other partner airlines, where award pricing often holds steady while the cash fares are enormous. Miles reach nearly 1,100 destinations across those partners. If you're building a balance on this card, partner premium cabins are what you're building it for.
The Citi Strata Premier is the perfect compliment, as it earns flexible points - including AAdvantage miles - that you can transfer to a variety of travel partners. Use them on Citi's other partners (which include Virgin Atlantic, Flying Blue, and many more), or combine miles earned on the AAdvantage Executive card for higher AAdvantage redemptions. The Strata Premier has a low annual fee, so you're not carrying to high-ticket cards, but have all the flexibility.
The recommended credit for this card is good to excellent.
