šŸ¤“ Travel Trivia Tuesday

šŸŽŸļø This credit is finally useful to me

I’ve held this premium card for years now… when the annual fee went up last year, I seriously considered closing or downgrading it.

But the credits made it worth continuing to hold… barely.

But there was one credit I never valued or used until very recently, and it’s become one of my favorite credits on any of my cards.

$300 per year for StubHub

The card I’m talking about comes with $300 to use at StubHub, broken up as $150 every six months (based on the calendar year).

Now that I’m living back in Canada again, I’ve been watching a lot of hockey and attending some live games.

One of the best places to buy those tickets is StubHub. And depending on the matchup, tickets can get pricey.

I used my StubHub credit to get some pretty expensive Leafs tickets, for example:

It’s worth knowing that even if you’re buying event tickets outside the U.S., this credit will trigger as long as you’re on the U.S. version of the website and paying in USD.

For cheaper games, I can even use this credit to buy tickets for myself and a friend and still have some leftover. šŸ‘‡

StubHub is pretty versatile

StubHub is more than just concerts and sports… I used StubHub to buy a ticket to a lecture by an academic whose work I follow, for example.

Also, Daily Drop CEO Greg told me about how he recently used his credit to pay for parking at an event that he already had tickets to.

If you search for a band, artist, sports team, etc., you’ll see a little box that says ā€œparking.ā€

From there, you can buy parking passes and even valet parking through StubHub, which will trigger the credit on this card.

Depending on the events you’re attending, this credit could pay for parking multiple times easily.

Maximize your earnings even more

You might’ve noticed in my screenshot from earlier that my ticket purchase earned 11x UR points.

That’s because of the Paze promotion I told you about earlier this year to earn an additional 10x UR points on this card or this card (through the end of 2026).

Simply choose Paze as the checkout method when you buy your tickets, and both the credit and bonus points will trigger.

If you want to stack even further, you can use a portal like Rove Shopping, which frequently offers around 8x Rove miles at StubHub.

Now, you’re getting 19x points/miles total on your purchase… which you’re also getting paid back for up to $300 a year.

Not too shabby, eh? šŸ˜

The bottom line

Given the amount of money I’ve already spent on events and the multiple hockey games I’ve attended, this $300 credit is now cash to me.

As I said, I already considered this card to be worth holding because of the other credits and perks, so I’m happy that the StubHub credit makes it even more of a no-brainer to hold on to.

āœˆļø Earn 25% more Southwest points

Southwest is out with a targeted offer for co-branded cardholders, allowing you to earn up to 25% bonus points on your spending this fall.

Not every cardholder is eligible, so you’ll want to log in to your Southwest account and check your offers.

If you are eligible, here is what it looks like:

  • You need to register for the offer before the end of the year

  • Earn 25% more points on spending between October 1 and December 31, 2026

  • Maximum of 20,000 points earned

  • Everyone is targeted with a minimum spending requirement

This isn’t that crazy of a deal, to be clear. For example, if you spend $3,000 on the card, you’ll earn 750 bonus points. It’s not exactly life-changing.

Still, if you value Southwest points or already spend a lot on the card, you might as well register.

As long as you register before December 31, the spending you have already done during the promo period (since October 1) will have the bonus points credited retroactively.

At the same time, that same spending could go toward an elevated welcome offer on a different card, which could offer a lot more bang for your buck(s).

You could also roll the dice and open a new Southwest card now and hope to be targeted before the end of the year – then you’ll get the welcome offer and these 25% bonus points (though I wouldn’t bank on it).

Anyway, if you don’t have a Southwest card yet, check out our favorites here. šŸ‘‡

šŸŒŽ Travel Trivia Reveal

The answer to today’s trivia question is none other than… Maine!

I know, I know… It feels completely wrong, since Maine is so far north, and a map looks like it should be Florida.

But the coast of Maine sticks so far out into the Atlantic that it ends up being the closest point in the U.S. to mainland Africa.

The exact spot is West Quoddy Head, the easternmost point in the lower 48. From there, it’s about 3,154 miles to the coast of Morocco.

Florida and Georgia, on the other hand, are basically tied for last place of the four options. šŸ‘‡

This really comes down to the fact that flat maps don’t account for the curvature of the Earth, and that distortion hides how much closer Maine is to Africa than some states that might look like the winner at first glance.

Anyway, there’s some fun geography knowledge for ya.

That’s all for today! I hope you enjoyed this look at a useful credit, a sweet Southwest promo, and some fun geography trivia.

Take care and see you tomorrow,

With contributions by Sam Anthony.
