The Bilt Obsidian Card feels like the โadultโ version of what most people want from a rewards card with strong everyday earning, a reasonable annual fee, and perks that match your spending habits. Itโs not trying to be the fanciest card in your wallet, but it could easily be the one you use the most. The big draw here is that it keeps the most important Bilt perk with up to 1.25x on rent and mortgage payments with no transaction fee. Obsidian gives you a real reason to put everyday spend on it too, especially if your monthly budget is basically food, errands, travel (whichโฆ same).
You also have the option to earn Bilt Cash on everyday spend (up to $100 Bilt Cash earned rolls over to the next year), so youโre still earning the โextraโ currency that you can use inside the Bilt ecosystem. There is an annual fee, but you also get a $100 Bilt Travel portal hotel credit (split semi-annually), which makes that fee feel much better.
โ
If I had to sum it up, this is the Bilt card for people who want to earn fast in popluar categories but still want the rent/mortgage situation. Itโs practical, itโs easy to justify, and it plays nicely as a โmain card"ย in your wallet.

At Daily Drop, our mission is simple: to help you explore the world affordably and experience life-changing travel by maximizing miles and points. Our team of travel and credit card experts is here to help you make decisions about which cards belong in your wallet. Based on your travel goals, we offer unbiased advice to help you make the best choices. Keep in mind that our suggestions require responsible credit card use.
Here at Daily Drop, we score credit cards using a proprietary formula based on dozens of metrics across six key categories: annual fee, welcome offer, rewards rates, redemption value, benefits & perks, and travel protections. Higher scores indicate better overall value.
We net the annual fee against statement credits you'll likely use and focus on a welcome offerโs true return on spending (ROI) rather than just the headline number. We value rewards by their actual worth in cents per point, which is why flexible, transferable points typically score highest. APR is not a standalone scoring category because we recommend paying in full to maximize points and miles, but an intro 0% APR counts as a perk.
Our reviews are editorial and experience-driven. Our team has earned and redeemed millions of miles and points and tested these cards around the world. After all, we would not be Daily Drop if we were not practicing what we preach.

If I had to sum it up, this is the Bilt card for people who want to earn fast in popular categories but still want to earn on their housing payments. Itโs practical, itโs easy to justify, and it plays nicely as a โmain card"ย in your wallet.
โ
[.pro] You can choose your power category between dining or grocery (up to $25K/year), which makes it feel customizable [.pro]
[.pro] Earns on travel, plus Bilt Cash gives you real value for trips beyond just flights and hotels [.pro]
[.pro] That $100 hotel credit helps offset the annual fee (and makes it easier to justify long-term) [.pro]
โ
[.con] The welcome โbonusโ is Bilt Cash, so itโs not the flashiest intro compared to other $95 cards [.con]
[.con] The 3x category cap (up to $25K/year) wonโt matter for most people, but heavy spenders should note it [.con]
โ
Ensure that you're earning the most points on your housing payments by calculating how much Bilt Cash you'll need to earn (through non-housing purchases) to unlock the full 1.25x on housing spending.

The Bilt Obsidian is best for those who want to earn points on their rent or mortgage but don't want to pay the high annual fee of the Bilt Palladium.
Bilt Obsidian is also great for anyone looking for a way into the Bilt ecosystem. Bilt is currently the only bank that transfers to Atmos Rewards and Bilt Obsidian is the only card with under a $100 fee (see rates & fees) that transfers at a 1:1 ratio to Hyatt.
โ
If you're looking for a nice welcome offer to get you booking trips ASAP, you won't find that here. Also, higher spenders will likely get more out of the true powerhouse, the Bilt Palladium Card.
You probably also shouldnโt own a credit card if you: (1) have a bad credit score, (2) are a non-U.S. resident (for this particular card), and (3) cannot control your spending. If your credit score is low, you'll need to improve it before applying for travel credit cards, as approval for the best ones, like the Sapphire Preferred, is unlikely. Be honest with yourself: if a new credit card will tempt you to overspend, it's best to avoid it. Credit cards are crucial for earning miles and points, but they require responsible use.

The recommended credit score for the Bilt Obsidian is good to excellent.
