At Daily Drop, our mission is simple: to help you explore the world affordably and experience life-changing travel by maximizing miles and points. Our team of travel and credit card experts is here to help you make decisions about which cards belong in your wallet. Based on your travel goals, we offer unbiased advice to help you make the best choices. Keep in mind that our suggestions require responsible credit card use.
Here at Daily Drop, we score credit cards using a proprietary formula based on dozens of metrics across six key categories: annual fee, welcome offer, rewards rates, redemption value, benefits & perks, and travel protections. Higher scores indicate better overall value.
We net the annual fee against statement credits you'll likely use and focus on a welcome offerโs true return on spending (ROI) rather than just the headline number. We value rewards by their actual worth in cents per point, which is why flexible, transferable points typically score highest. APR is not a standalone scoring category because we recommend paying in full to maximize points and miles, but an intro 0% APR counts as a perk.
Our reviews are editorial and experience-driven. Our team has earned and redeemed millions of miles and points and tested these cards around the world. After all, we would not be Daily Drop if we were not practicing what we preach.

When this card launched, I got excited, as it's an awesome card. Let me tell you why. Yes, it does come with a hefty annual fee, but the easy-to-use benefits more than offset the annual fee (if you'll use them naturally, of course). I love the $300 IHG Food & Beverage credit (distributed quarterly as $75 vouchers)ย because it makes so much sense. You're already staying at an IHG hotel, and now you get to enjoy some drinks at the hotel bar, breakfast, or even dinner if the hotel restaurant offers it.
The $200 airline credit is similarly easy to use, and not something you have to go out of your way to do. All you have to do is spend at least $250 on flights purchased directly with the airline each calendar year (through 12/31/27). Which, if you're traveling, you're probably doing anyway. Simple.
So with those two credits alone, you've already recouped the annual fee, and we haven't even touched on the annivarsary night (capped at 60,000 points) or elite night credits yet. With the new Premier Select, you get automatic Platinum Elite status, plus 20 Elite Night Credits every calendar year. That unlocks IHG's first Milestone Reward immediately, and gets you halfway to the 40-night award, which offers an annual club lounge membership as an option. At hotels with a club lounge, that often means breakfast and even evening cocktails or snacks (though offerings vary per hotel).
In short: if you stay at IHG hotels with any frequency, this is a fantastic card. The straightforward credits and elite benefits make it an easy choice for me.
[.pro] Easy-to-use statement credits [.pro]
[.pro] Anniversary Free Night, capped at 60K points, though you can top it up with more points [.pro]

[.pro] Fourth night free when you book four consecutive award nights [.pro]
[.con] High annual fee [.con]
[.con] Points best used within the IHG eco-system, so if you are looking to book flights with points, go for transferable points card [.con]
[.redeem] 28X [.redeem] total points per $1 spent at IHGยฎ Hotels and Resorts (12X points with this card, up to 10X points from IHGยฎ on stays for being an IHG One Rewards member, andup to 6X points from IHGยฎ on stays with Platinum Elite Status, a benefit of this card)
[.redeem] 6X [.redeem] per $1 spent on dining and all other travel, including rideshare
[.redeem] 3X [.redeem] per $1 spent on all other purchases
[.dontreco] We don't recommend:ย transferring to airline partners [.dontreco]
While you technically can transfer IHG points to airlines, we highly recommend that you do not do this, as it's an extremely poor value. If you're looking to book flights with points, you're better off getting a transferable points card.
[.alwaysreco] We always recommend: Using Points for Free Nights [.alwaysreco]
Redeeming points for free nights at IHG hotels provides the best value. This can give you more than 0.7 cents per point, especially if you take advantage of promotions and the fourth-night free benefit. And don't forget to use your anniversary free night!ย

The Premier Select covers your IHG stays super well, but the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card fills in every gap outside that, without a crazy high annual fee like some premium cards. With double miles on everything, a generous annual travel credit, and access to Capital One Lounges and Priority Pass (enrollment required), itโs the perfect โall other purchasesโ card. Use your Venture X for flights, car rentals, and non-IHG hotels, then rely on the Premier Select for top-tier IHG perks, free nights, and boosted earnings.

If you want more flexibility alongside your IHG points, the Sapphire Preferred is a great partner. Ultimate Rewards points can be transferred directly to IHG when you need a little extra, and they regularly have nice transfer bonuses to IHG, so you'll get even more value out of your points. Ultimate Rewards also transfer to a variety of airline and hotel partners, so you're not just locked into IHG redemptions. Use your UR points to get to your destination, then use IHG points for your hotel! It's a win-win combo.
โ
This card is a great option for you if you stay with IHG several times a year, would use hotel dining credits without going out of your way, pay cash for flights, and want Platinum status.
Honestly, most casual IHG guests won't get enough value out of this card. If you only stay a couple of times a year, you're paying $350 for a status tier and an earn rate you won't use enough to justify. Plus, you won't be able to use all the Food & Beverage credits, as those are issued quarterly.
You should also skip it if you want flexibility. IHG points are largely confined to IHG, so if your travel plans tend to shift between brands, a card earning a transferable currency will serve you better.
And the usual rules apply. If your credit score isn't in good shape, work on that first. If a new card is going to tempt you into spending you can't pay off, the rewards will never outrun the interest. Credit cards are a tool for earning points, not a reason to spend more.

As this is a premium card, the recommended credit is good to excellent.
