At Daily Drop, our mission is simple: to help you explore the world affordably and experience life-changing travel by maximizing miles and points. Our team of travel and credit card experts is here to help you make decisions about which cards belong in your wallet. Based on your travel goals, we offer unbiased advice to help you make the best choices. Keep in mind that our suggestions require responsible credit card use.
Here at Daily Drop, we score credit cards using a proprietary formula based on dozens of metrics across six key categories: annual fee, welcome offer, rewards rates, redemption value, benefits & perks, and travel protections. Higher scores indicate better overall value.
We net the annual fee against statement credits you'll likely use and focus on a welcome offerโs true return on spending (ROI) rather than just the headline number. We value rewards by their actual worth in cents per point, which is why flexible, transferable points typically score highest. APR is not a standalone scoring category because we recommend paying in full to maximize points and miles, but an intro 0% APR counts as a perk.
Our reviews are editorial and experience-driven. Our team has earned and redeemed millions of miles and points and tested these cards around the world. After all, we would not be Daily Drop if we were not practicing what we preach.

The New IHG One Rewards Credit Card (formerly the IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card) is one of the easiest ways to start earning hotel points without paying an annual fee.
The card earns up to 17X total points on IHG stays, plus 3X points on dining, gas stations, and grocery stores (new!), and 2X on everything else. You'll also get automatic Silver Elite status and, new with this relaunch, 5 Elite Night Credits every year to give you a head start on higher status.
With no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees, it's a great fit for occasional IHG guests and anyone who wants a low-commitment hotel card to keep in their wallet long term.

When it comes to IHG Rewards Points the best way to maximize your points is to redeem them with travel.
[.dontreco]ย We donโt recommend: Redeeming for Gift Cards or Events[.dontreco]ย
While you can technically redeem IHG points for gift cards to select brands as well as select events, it's an extremely poor use of your points. Just don't do it!!
[.alwaysreco] We always recommend: Using Points for Free Nights [.alwaysreco]
Redeeming points for free nights at IHG hotels provides the best value. This can give you more than 0.7 cents per point, especially if you take advantage of promotions and the fourth-night free benefit.

If you want more flexibility alongside your IHG points, the Sapphire Preferred is a great partner. Ultimate Rewards points can be transferred directly to IHG when you need a little extra, and they regularly have nice transfer bonuses to IHG, so you'll get even more value out of your points. Ultimate Rewards also transfer to a variety of airline and hotel partners, so you're not just locked into IHG redemptions. Use your UR points to get to your destination, then use IHG points for your hotel! It's a win-win combo.

The Occasional IHG Guest
If you stay at IHG properties like Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, or InterContinental a few times a year, this card lets you earn hotel points without paying an annual fee. You'll earn up to 17X total points on IHG stays, get automatic Silver Elite status, and pick up 5 Elite Night Credits every year. It's a low-commitment way to get real value from IHG without needing to stay often enough to justify a fee.
The Points-and-Miles Beginner
If you're just getting started with travel rewards, this card is an easy first step. There's no annual fee to worry about, and the 3X categories (dining, grocery stores, and gas stations) cover spending most people already do every month. Plus, with no foreign transaction fees, you can use it on your trip once you get there.
โ
Here's a good rule of thumb: You probably shouldn't own a credit card if you: (1) have a bad credit score, (2) are a non-U.S. resident (for this particular card), and (3) cannot control your spending. If your credit score is low, you'll need to improve it before applying for travel credit cards. Be honest with yourself: if a new credit card will tempt you to overspend, it's best to avoid it. Credit cards are crucial for earning miles and points, but they require responsible use.
And if you stay with IHG often, the Premier card's Anniversary Free Night, Gold Elite status, and higher earning rates may be worth the higher annual fee.
โ
A good to excellent credit score is recommended for The New IHG One Rewards Credit Card. But if you're in a solid place with your credit and feel ready for a new card, don't let the fear of being rejected keep you from applying. The worst they can say is "no."
