Earn unlimited, matched cash-back. At the end of your first year, Chase will automatically match the cash-back you earned from ALL purchases—essentially doubling your rewards in that first year.

Summary

For a no annual fee card, this unlimited, matched cash-back offer is perhaps the best we've ever seen on this card. Chase's offer to match your cash-back rewards means your earning rates are doubled for those first 12 months. So if you're a big spender, or you know you'll have some big spends over the next 12 months, the Freedom Unlimited could be an excellent card to maximize your earnings and rewards.

Speaking of rewards, if you have another Chase card that earns transferable Ultimate Rewards points, such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, the Chase Sapphire Reserve, or the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card, you can turn your cash-back rewards into those coveted Chase points for greater value and the ability to transfer to airline and hotel partners. As a reminder, those doubled cash-back rewards will also translate into 10x points per dollar on Chase Travel purchases, 6x points per dollar on dining and drugstores, and 3x points for all other purchases 🤯

If you don't have another Chase card that earns Chase points... fear not! The Freedom Unlimited is an excellent starter card, and you can always apply for one of Chase's other cards down the road that will allow you to turn these cash-back rewards into points.

  • 5% cash-back (10X with special offer) per $1 on travel booked through Chase
  • 3% cash-back (6X with special offer) per $1 on dining and drug stores
  • 1.5% cash-back (3X with special offer) per $1 on all other purchases

👍 Pros

  • No annual fee
  • Ability to turn cash-back into Chase Ultimate Rewards when paired with an eligible card
  • Solid (and generous) earning rates on everyday spending

👎 Cons

  • May have less value as a stand alone cash-back card if you don't hold the Preferred, Reserve, or the Ink Business Preferred
