As a filmmaker, I’m used to working with unpredictable budgets and big-ticket expenses. One month it’s a new lens, the next it’s renting lighting rigs or booking flights. What I’ve always struggled with is finding a business credit card that actually rewards those purchases.

That’s why the Capital One Venture X Business caught my attention. It’s not your typical small-business card. This one’s built for entrepreneurs, creatives, and anyone who deals with large expenses and doesn’t want the stress of a preset spending limit.

Here’s why I’m applying for it, and why it might make sense for your business too.

2x Miles on Everything

Most business cards only give bonus points in certain categories. That’s fine if your spending is predictable, but mine isn’t. With the Venture X Business, I’ll earn 2x miles on every purchase with no cap. That means I don’t have to overthink where to put my expenses. Camera gear, office supplies, late-night Amazon hauls… it all counts the same.

There’s one exception, and it’s a good one. When you book through Capital One Travel, you’ll earn 5x miles on flights and 10x miles on hotels and rental cars. That’s a huge boost compared to the flat rate and makes it easy to rack up miles faster when I’m booking production travel.

💡 Pro Tip: Those miles get even more valuable when you transfer them to Capital One’s airline and hotel partners.

No Preset Spending Limit

Creative work often means big, unpredictable expenses. A single camera purchase can run thousands, and productions don’t wait for credit limits to reset. The Venture X Business comes with no preset spending limit, giving me the flexibility to run my business without worrying about hitting a ceiling.

That flexibility is a lifesaver if your business has seasonal spikes or unpredictable cash flow.

A Massive Welcome Bonus

One of the strongest draws of this card is its huge welcome offer: Earn 150,000 bonus miles once you spend $30,000 in the first 3 months from account opening.

For me, that bonus alone could cover flights for an entire production crew or a business class trip to Europe, with miles left over for hotels. For any small-business owner with big upfront expenses, this is an easy way to get outsized value quickly.

$300 Annual Travel Credit + 10k Bonus Miles

These perks are what really sealed it for me:

  • $300 credit each year for bookings through Capital One Travel (flights, hotels, vacation rentals, or car rentals).

  • 10,000 bonus miles every anniversary year, starting on your first anniversary.

The card has a $395 annual fee, but between the travel credit and anniversary miles (worth at least $100), I’ll already be getting $400+ in annual value each year. Everything else, like the lounge access and other built-in perks, is just icing on the cake.

Premium Travel Perks

Travel is a huge part of my work, so I need benefits that actually make life on the road easier. With the Venture X Business, I’ll get:

  • Access to Capital One Lounges (including the JFK lounge I can’t wait to visit)

  • Priority PassTM membership for even more lounge access worldwide (with enrollment)

  • Hertz President’s Circle status, which means guaranteed one-car-class upgrades on every rental. I rent with Hertz often, so this perk alone saves me time and money.

  • Primary car rental insurance, which covers me when I’m on the road without needing to rely on my personal policy

  • Cell phone protection and trip insurance

For someone constantly bouncing between NYC, Miami, and shoots abroad, these benefits can make travel days much smoother. Lounge access means I’m not editing footage on the floor of the terminal, and Hertz upgrades mean I can step off a long flight and know I’ll be driving something decent.

Free Employee and Virtual Cards

I often have team members handling bookings or equipment rentals. With free employee and virtual cards, I can keep spending organized, earn rewards on all of it, and skip extra fees. Starting in 2026, I’ll also be able to extend lounge access to authorized users for $125 a year, which is a nice perk for my team.

Why I’m Choosing This Over Other Cards

I also looked at The Business Platinum Card® from American Express. It’s a strong card with great perks, but it comes with a higher $895 annual fee (rates and fees) and a lot of credits to manage. For non-bonus spending like camera gear, I’d only earn 1x — or 2x if the purchase is over $5,000, capped at $2 million per year. The Venture X Business’s flat 2x on everything feels simpler and more rewarding for the way I spend.

I also hold the American Express® Business Gold Card, which is great for categories like restaurants, electronics, and other business expenses where it earns strong bonus rates. I see the Amex Business Gold and Venture X Business as complementary. Together, they cover both category-specific spending and large, unpredictable purchases.

Bottom Line

The Capital One Venture X Business fills a gap that many business cards don’t: rewarding big, unpredictable purchases while also delivering premium travel perks.

For me, that means 2x miles on expensive camera gear, a $300 annual travel credit, no preset spending limit, and lounge access at airports I actually use.

If you’re a business owner with big, irregular expenses, or just want a reliable travel card that doesn’t force you to juggle categories, the Venture X Business is worth a serious look. Add in the annual anniversary miles, free employee cards, and a welcome bonus big enough to fund a major trip, and this is one of those rare cards where the fee essentially pays for itself.
