Why This Deal Is Amazing
First and foremost, lie-flat business class seat on a non-stop across the world is pretty hard to beat, period.
The transfer bonus is really what makes this a timely deal, though.
Capital One is running a 30% transfer bonus to JAL Mileage Bank through the end of September, meaning you don’t lose value when you transfer those Capital One Miles this month (the normal ratio is 4:3).
The cash price is normally around $3,500, which means you’re getting 5.68 cents per point each, which is a value of epic proportions.
There’s daily availability from New York in January and February, with a few scattered dates in earlier months.
There’s also availability from DFW, SFO, LAX, and ORD, though it’s less robust, so this might be a deal to consider repositioning for, if you’re open to it or really want to make this trip happen.
And Japan in the winter is less crowded (though never fully devoid of tourists these days) and a great time of year for a world class skiing trip if you wanted to continue on to Hokkaido.
Largely, pricing was closer to 70k-75k per day for the dates I searched, and while the JAL website is difficult to use, there is a calendar function that might help you find dates that might work for you.
