Puerto Rico doesn’t get as much buzz as it deserves (in my opinion). It’s super accessible from the U.S., has insanely beautiful beaches, and the people and culture alone make it worth the trip.

While getting there is easy, figuring out where to stay takes a little more planning. The good news? You can use hotel points or flexible travel rewards to cover some (or all) of your stay.

Here’s a guide to the best Puerto Rico hotels you can book with points, plus the best credit cards to use for each program.

World of Hyatt Hotels in Puerto Rico

This is one of the best ways to use World of Hyatt points in Puerto Rico. It’s a Category 5 resort near El Yunque National Forest with a lagoon-style pool, beachfront golf, and over a dozen food and beverage outlets.

Expect to pay 20,000 Hyatt points for a standard night here (17,000 off-peak or 23,000 on peak dates). You can boost your World of Hyatt balance with the The World of Hyatt Credit Card or by transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards at a 1:1 ratio with a card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve®.

If you're staying in the city and want to save points, Hyatt Place San Juan is a solid pick. It’s close to the convention center, cruise port, and a short ride to Old San Juan. Plus, all World of Hyatt members get free breakfast.

As a Category 3 property, award nights cost 9,000 to 15,000 points per night, depending on the season, so it’s super doable with Chase transfers or direct earnings from the World of Hyatt Card.

Best Cards for Earning Hyatt Points

  • Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve: Earn Ultimate Rewards you can transfer 1:1 to Hyatt for arguably the best value redemption option.

  • World of Hyatt Card: Comes with a Category 1-4 free night certificate, complimentary Discoverist status, and bonus points on Hyatt stays.

Marriott Bonvoy Hotels in Puerto Rico

Okay, friends… this one is obviously a splurge. This St. Regis has an extensive list of perks, including personal butlers, a gorgeous private beach, kids’ club, and a golf course designed by some really famous person that I don’t know.

Award nights usually cost 80,000+ Marriott Bonvoy points per night — pricey, but if you’ve been holding on to free night certificates from the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card, this is a great use for them. You’ll also earn serious points on paid stays with any Marriott Bonvoy card.

Located in the heart of Condado, this modern Marriott hotel puts you steps from great nightlife, the beach, and plenty of dining options. Rooms are usually around 50,000 to 60,000 points per night, which you can top off with Chase or American Express transfers (or points purchases) if you’re short on points.

We’ve got another Condado favorite! This Marriott has a great pool, beachfront access, and a freaking casino. Expect rates around 50,000 to 60,000 points per night, and pay with points or your annual free night from the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card.

Sheratons have a great balance of budget-friendliness and location, and this one in particular is very centrally located. Rates generally start around 35,000 to 45,000 Bonvoy points per night, and you’ll pick up extra points with any Marriott co-branded card.

Hilton Hotels in Puerto Rico

Y’all… the Caribe Hilton is where the piña colada was first invented. Need I say more? It’s still a classic San Juan stay, with a private beach and super nice gardens.

Award nights start around 70,000 Hilton Honors points, and your fifth night is free on points stays if you have Hilton status (which you can get with any Hilton card). The Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card or Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card are your best bets, giving you complimentary Hilton Honors Gold or Diamond status, respectively, including perks like free breakfast and upgrades.

If you’re looking to explore more than just San Juan, this Hilton in Ponce offers ocean views, golf, and a quieter side of Puerto Rico. You’ll generally see award nights from 50,000 to 60,000 points, and Diamond status (from the Hilton Amex Aspire) will give you some extra love at check-in.

Best Cards for Earning Hilton Points

  • Hilton Honors Surpass & Hilton Amex Aspire: Earn piles of points (up to 14X on Hilton stays), plus get Gold or Diamond status for free breakfast and upgrades (perfect for the Caribe Hilton or Ponce).

Wyndham Hotels in Puerto Rico

If you’re after something close to an all-inclusive that you can book with points, this might just be the place. It’s located by El Yunque and has pools, golf, tennis, and the option to tack on food and drinks. It’s usually 30,000 to 35,000 Wyndham points per night, and you can transfer Capital One miles 1:1 to book, or rack up points directly with any Wyndham card.

Amex Hotel Collection & Fine Hotels + Resorts Favorites

Welp, this is easily one of the most exclusive stays on the island. Dorado Beach has suites with private plunge pools, outdoor showers, and a level of service that’ll simply ruin other vacations for you.

While you technically can redeem Marriott Bonvoy points here, award nights are very steep, but you can book through Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts with an Amex Platinum to get daily breakfast, property credits, guaranteed 4:00 p.m. checkout, and upgrades if available. And, you’ll earn 5x Membership Rewards per dollar on prepaid bookings.

This one is also bookable through Fine Hotels + Resorts, giving you perks like spa credits and free breakfast. Choice Privileges points work here, too, thanks to a surprisingly valuable (and little-known) partnership.

This is a personal fave. It’s tucked into a 350-year-old former convent in Old San Juan and has beautiful Spanish tile, courtyards, and a fascinating history. You can use The Hotel Collection via Amex Travel if you stay two nights or more, which gets you $100 in property credits and a potential room upgrade when you pay with an Amex Gold or Amex Platinum.

All-Inclusive & Adults-Only Options With Points

Puerto Rico isn’t necessarily overflowing with all-inclusives like some other Caribbean destinations, but the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar gets pretty close. For adults-only vibes, check out the Condado Ocean Club in San Juan (also bookable through Amex’s Hotel Collection), where you can pay with Membership Rewards and get up to $100 property credits.

Bottom Line

Puerto Rico should absolutely be on your travel list. From luxury Marriott stays and historic Hilton classics to beachy Wyndham redemptions and boutique gems, your points can go a long way.

Whether you're booking with Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott, or Wyndham, you've got plenty of great options. The one exception is IHG, which has very limited options on the island. So go ahead, redeem your points, and enjoy using that extra cash on a piña colada (or two… or five).
